Understanding Credit Counseling in Bankruptcy

If you’re thinking about filing for bankruptcy, there are two credit counseling courses you’ll need to complete. Don’t worry – they’re designed to help you understand your finances and the bankruptcy process.

Before You File:

The first course is called a pre-filing credit counseling course. This is a mandatory step. You’ll take this course before you officially file your bankruptcy paperwork. The course will go over your financial situation and other options, like debt management plans. It helps ensure that bankruptcy is the right choice for you.

After you file:

Once you’ve filed for bankruptcy, you’ll need to take a second course, called a debtor education course. This one focuses on helping you manage your finances moving forward. You’ll learn important skills like budgeting and how to avoid debt in the future.

Both courses can be taken online or over the phone, and they’re usually pretty straightforward. I’ll help guide you through this process and make sure you know exactly what to do and when. Let’s take this one step at a time!
